Prison buildings constitute a relevant part of the overall national building stock both in terms of numbers and value. Whenever they stop their original function, it becomes necessary to think about how to transform and reuse them. Such issues have been widely discussed under several different disciplinary perspectives, among which the historical and architectural ones. The present chapter aims at offering a business economics’ insight, which is to try to point out the technical solutions able to allow financial sustainability in the restructuring and managing the buildings. In particular, considering the cases of two important prison sites in Sardinia and the proposals of their transformation, the chapter proposes some methodological insights to estimate the economic effects of their conversion and use for commercial activities. More in detail, a few scenarios usage of the building will be proposed with the aim to recover the transformation costs and to at the same time, respect the buildings’ history and original functions.Downloads
