The Urban Plan with the value of Landscape Plan of the Tuscany Region (PIT/PPR) introduces significant innovations regarding quarries, providing for the landscape evaluation of all the extractive activities and the drafting of Implementation Plans of the Extractive Basins (PABE) for the area of the Apuan-Versilian Marble District.
Carrying out a landscape assessment of a quarry involves a better territorial integration of the activity, with a consequent increase in the design quality, allowing to contain the landscape/environmental impact and at the same time to optimize its performance.
The PABEs deepen their knowledge of the quarries of the Apuan-Versilian district, relating them to the critical issues and landscape values expressed by the PIT/PPR and plan the mining activity, identifying the actions and rules necessary so that the continuation of marble extraction is accompanied by attention to landscape issues and territorial enhancement such as the preservation of historical testimonial elements of interest to the community. The target is to combine mining with the protection of geosites, ridges and peaks, the underground landscape, the springs and the areas protected by the Code of Cultural Heritage (D.Lgs.42/2004).
