The Madonie are a compact area from the hystorical, cultural, economic and architectural point of view infact, butIn the last sixty years is living a demographic erosion process caused by policies of litoralization, centralization in the main urban centers of the island and the mechanization of agricultural practices that has radically changed the relationship between humans and nature. The abandonment phenomenon is not only related to the population, but include salso the rural architecture spread in the area.
The masserie are the principal symbol of the symbiosis of nature and peasant culture – pastoral and dots the madonie area representing the emblem of an ancient conscious anthropization that has provided us with an architectural heritage that today is in danger of being lost.
Starting from an analytic knowledge of the masserie the purpose is to define a valorization strategies for setting up a “masserie system”.
With the aim of transform a problem in an opportunity of progress and trying to create value for the territory in a logic of sustainable development, is believed that new forms of landscape interpretation could be joined by the creation of a new trail network. This, based on the analysis of ancient and interpoderal roads, could become an useful instrument for the governance of a new way of living an interior area of our country where the masserie would become the opportunity for preserving important traces of our cultural identities and the thread to sew up the territory based on a process of economical diversification.
