As the landscape is considered more and more in human terms, knowledge, conservation, and recognition of Calabrian villages becomes a matter of great actuality. That is considering settlements as a result of conscious choices and recognizing the value of “cultivated” constructions and “poorer” buildings. The latter is not to be taken as spontaneous production, but rather as sedimentation of historical and cultural processes. All this is relevant if one considers the sharp separation which occurs between communities and historical settlements; the latter, far from being closely linked to working activities are now reduced to ruins or abandoned and depopulated dormitories. Therefore, the objective of this research is to contribute to understanding, protecting and recuperating such a reality, linking the present to the past. In particular, this would involve informing the communities; intervening in the degraded, abandoned or less “lived” parts of the urban and rural, including the modern, territory; facilitating a return to forms of cohousing associated with forms of coworking might also be of particular importance within urban and rural historical contexts. promoting the traditional economy; considering such areas as plural, dynamic and open spaces, including to a new population; reviving local identity and, at the same time, avoiding “musealization”.
