The territory that gives priority to creating environmental quality before even considering the landscape seeks development models capable of raising the levels of resilience and re-establishing settlement systems that avoid depopulation be it of a permanent or temporary nature. Both places and their communities are required to be different and more consciously "hospitable", holding up the landscape as an icon of identity and the custodian of a different "productivity" of the territory. Referring to the Regional Strategy on Inner Areas of Calabria, the experiment carried out with the Rural Making laboratories tries to pursue this new ambition for the territory, reviewing the very concept of identity. The edition held in Gallicianò, which worked on the themes of advanced manufacturing processes and open-source technological innovation with the EcoDesign and Enabling Technologies Labs, triggered regenerative measures based on predictable repopulation and enhancement scenarios by reading the environmental and physical data that recognize the territorial qualities of the Grecanic Area. The laboratory designed and built two stations to monitor the quality of the air. They consisted of sensors connected to Arduino boards and a 3D printing design and provided technological support for the construction of integrated information maps. The monitoring stations were located in the main square of the village (in the inner area) and on the SS 106 in Condofuri Marina (in the urban area). The locations chosen were to demonstrate how conditions in the inner areas are more favourable than in urbanized coastal centers. This also showed how events of a particular impact can undermine the quality of the architectural and environmental heritage of the small town.
