The main goal of vernacular architecture is to respond to the need for living.
The rules of settlement together with the organization of the territory take part in the construction of the landscape and highlight its identity.
This study investigates the coastal territory of the Rías Baixas in Galicia and in particular the way in which the practices of living have participated in the construction of the landscape, and how this represent, today, a possible resource for local economic development trying to overcome the traditional rural vision of places towards a contemporary conjugation of places of living.
The most widespread element of Galician vernacular architecture is the hórreo, a small building built near the house to store food reserves.
It represents one of the main elements of the architectural and cultural heritage of the region.
In ancient time, the hórreo, was linked to the agrarian economy, it is today a key element for the revival of local tourism.
The aim of the research is to survey and analyze cultural landscapes; here the hórreos represent the main identifying element,
and to develop a communication project that aims to express the quality of architecture to preserve it from the risk of disposal and subsequent disappearance.
