The article presents a reflection on the establishment of the Messina Strait Park as an opportunity to recognize a unique and organic identity to its landscape, at multiple scales and for very specific cultural, perceptive, emotional and design values.
The value of water as “liquid public space” is entrusted with a modern concept of landscape as inseparable from its own sea, underlined by examining some European examples where “special” sea areas are introduced into legal, administrative and urban planning systems, which recognize the value water an identity of “place”.
Mineral, fluid space, mobility and transit infrastructure, of human measures and conditions, the Strait is Cultural Heritage because it is imbued with individual and collective identities, with material and intangible values.
Bound to the habit of living it and inhabit it, in everyday life as well as in the feelings of belonging, the Park of the Strait in compliance with the Agenda 2030 (Goal 11) addresses, can invent the reference to new ways of reading, interpretation, intervention, interaction between environment and community, between place and the people who live there as a thought and a complex design process.
A cultural statement that substantiates the establishment of the Park of the Strait as an emblematic case of landscape heritage, cultural product, regeneration and requalification engine, strategic and innovative, in the unconventional design of its landscape.
Il Parco dello Stretto. Spazio Pubblico liquido, patrimonio culturale
